About Marc

Marc Halbheer was born in Zurich, where it was evident from the start that his primary interest was music. As a teenager, he discovered a passion for percussion. Since then, he has continually developed his skills and become a master of these instruments.

In the late eighties, Halbheer spent three years in Los Angeles, USA, where he studied under Ralph Humphrey and Ed Man, both members of Frank Zappa’s legendary band. He had the opportunity to collaborate with jazz, Latin, and pop bands, performing in numerous clubs across Southern California. During this time, he met Yiotis Kiourtsoglou from Greece and Lior Yekutieli from Israel, who became his musical companions throughout his career. Together, they founded the band Exit Trio. He also worked with Martin Tillman from Switzerland on several occasions.

Upon returning to Zurich, Halbheer became an active drummer in the Swiss music scene. He initiated numerous projects and influenced many musicians. A significant aspect of his work was developing the drum and rhythm department at Musikhochschule Luzern in Switzerland. He successfully designed the curriculum for drum and rhythm education from its inception and contributed to making this school the largest and most successful jazz program in the country. For over 20 years, he has held a professorship in Lucerne and continues to teach with outstanding results.

Therefore, in his artistic work, Marc Halbheer explores various aspects of music. His interest in diverse cultural backgrounds has provided him the opportunity to travel the world and collaborate with musicians globally. He founded his own label, Texit Music, where he releases his projects as a leader and composer.

Halbheer lives partly in Madrid, Spain, where he learned about the rich heritage of flamenco from Pepe Habichuela, a member of one of the country’s most prominent flamenco dynasties.

Marc’s history includes international tours and recordings with Mathias Rüegg’s Vienna Art Orchestra, TienShanSuisse Express, Martin Tillman, Arild Anderson, Milcho Leviev, Stacy Rowles, Frank Strazzeri, David Angel, Fernando Saunders, Lior Yekutieli, Yiotis Kiourtsoglou, Pantelis Stoikos, Dany Noel, Miguel Linares, Alex Wilson, Leon Duncan, Edwin Sanz, Christy Doran, the Tonhalle Orchester Zurich, Ambient Groove Artists, Christoph Baumann, Gotthard, Paralpin, and others.
